Issues when installing ET on remote server
by Guillermo Eaton 08 Aug '18

Hello all, I am trying to install the Einstein Toolkit on my group's remote server. They call it a cluster although in reality it is a workstation. When running *./simfactory/bin/sim build --mdbkey make 'make -j14' --th ornlist=manifest/einsteintoolkit.th <http://einsteintoolkit.th> sim, *I get the following error near the end of installation: *Formaline: Creating master git repository...Formaline: Pushing to master git repository...Formaline: Optimising git repository (slow only the first time).../usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmpi_usempif08/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmpi_usempi_ignore_tkrcollect2: error: ld returned 1 exit statusmake[1]: *** [/work/eaton/Cactus/exe/cactus_sim] Error 1make[1]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....Formaline: Creating local git repository...Formaline: Pushing to local git repository /work/eaton/Cactus/../CactusSourceJar.git...Formaline: Optimising git repository (slow only the first time)...Formaline: Done.Formaline: (Formaline has finished updating the git repositories.Formaline: If the build process seems to hang, some other commandFormaline: is still running, e.g. the final link stage.)make: *** [sim] Error 2* What could had gone wrong? I have attached the whole terminal output of the installation process, together with the workstation's *lscpu* info. Thank you very much, G. Eaton

We have a new wiki on docs.einsteintoolkit.org and a solution to the problem of non-CCT people accessing the site. The wiki no longer relies on CCT ldap (existing accounts were copied from ldap). Anyone can sign up for an account on the new site. From the main page, click "special pages" then "create account." Or, you can use this link directly. https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/Special:CreateAccount If you have an existing account and your password doesn't work for some reason, the password reset should function. Note that there is a new "skin" with this version of Mediawiki called vector. You can select it from your "My preferences" link. We've tested this here at CCT, but doubtless someone will find a problem with it that we didn't think of. --Steve

If I want modify the parameters file (code) --"NsNsToHMNS.par" of the binary neutron stars in the* "gallery example"* to simulate the non vacuum binary neutron stars (and the gas surrounding could be in different density and velocity distribution, should I add some thorns into the parameters file(NsNsToHMNS.par )? if yes, what should I add? )how could I do ? thank you~~ Best, Jie

meeting minutes for 2018-08-06

Present: Roland, Sam, Steve, Yosef, Bhavesh, Peter, Gary W Pearson, Bill ET release: * dates conflict with ET EU meeting * will have release just after the meeting so that the tutorials can still use the old release * will start testing testsuites. Roland on clusters and OSX, Steve on Linux. Gallery examples: * BBH: Sam has job that ran on SuperMike will look at it today * TOV: works * Scalar field: works * BNS: Peter ran the example with old code and that matches the gallery, so there is indeed a code change that caused this. Significant differences are present in central density and amplitudes. Now we have to understand what causes the differences by trying to compare testsuite differences between the two versions. Reviews: * Peter looked at Proca and has not seen anything terrible yet * Steve will look at WVU_Diagnostics * Lean still needs a reviewer * no progress on GiRaFFE Education working group: * please review https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/images/e/ed/EinsteinToolkit_Educat… for compliance with https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/ET_Working_Group_Policies_and_Proc… Read-write-based scheduler: * Sam checked runtimes using PreSync vs. the current ET code and finds significant speedup of about 20% in all the tests which is accounted for in the SYNC calls, indicating a lot of oversynchronization. These tests include ML_BSSN. ET wiki: * close to having a new version of the wiki * will have its own local logins and no longer rely on the CCT LDAP * container for wiki is well under way * hopeful to be able to let everybody edit the wiki by the end of this week Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. If I want to stimulate the binary neutron stars in the gas to see if there are some special phenomenon, such like the collision of two accretion disks, or when a wind blows in the process, what will happen, what should I do? how to modify the parameter file? Please give me some guides. best, Jie

Present: Peter, Bhavesh, Roland, Sam, Andreas Boden, Zach wiki editing without accounts: * Peter will talk with admins * Peter will also poke the amins about SSL certificates for docs.einsteintoolkit.org memory consumption in BBH simulations * email thread: http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2018-July/006396.html * Roland summarized the thread: not enough information yet, Miguel has checked that RSS increases but not yet that Carpet's reported memory for grid functions does not increase by the same amount ET release: Gallery examples: * BBH: Sam was away at PEARC, will do it later this week * poisson: Roland to poke Shawn * scalar fields, TOV: Roland will do today if call ends early * BNS: Peter ran with old code over the weekend, will check once in the office GiRaFFE review: * no progress on actual report * Zach is finishing up the tests himself * Intel compiler <19 does not work with newest Ubuntu, Intel 19 fails right now to compile PAPI. Zach will compile without. WVUDiagnostics: * no updates Lean: * no updates Proca: * Peter downloaded and compiled the code, read through paper. Milestones: * simfactory on OSX: Roland to test Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. I therefore support encrypting and signing email messages. If I want to simulate the situation of the binary neutron star with the gas surrounding, and the gas can be in different density and different velocity distribution, how could I do ?(Should I insert the thorns "GRHydro_InitData"and "EOS_Polytrope" into the parameter file of binary neutron stars--"NsNsToHMNS.par" ?) Hi All, Sorry about the late e-mail but this is just a reminder that next week's Users Call will take place at the usual time (Monday at 10:00am US Eastern time) and the usual place (https://bluejeans.com/194244555). If you have any items for the agenda please add them to the wiki (https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/meeting_agenda#Meeting_Agenda) or send them to me (diener(a)cct.lsu.edu). Cheers, Peter
