initial checkout failing for Wheeler release; machine down?
by Bernard Kelly 22 Jun '14

22 Jun '14

Hi all. Is the machine hosting svn.einsteintoolkit.org down? It's not responding to pings, and an attempted checkout of the latest ET release hangs with the error message: "Error: Couldn't download http://svn.einsteintoolkit.org/manifest/branches/ET_2014_05/einsteintoolkit… correctly" [This happens on all the machines I'm using, and taking out the "--parallel" flag makes no difference.] Thanks, Bernard

reading/using HDF5 chunked 3D output in VisiT?
by Bernard Kelly 21 Jun '14

21 Jun '14

Hi all. A summer intern here has been doing some visualizations with CarpetIOHDF5 2D data in VisiT, and it all seems to be going well. However, we're having trouble using the 3D output. * using the default "chunked" output, and looking at individual files *seems* to load OK, but the file contents are suspiciously similar across all cores (e.g., all show the same domain size, rather than specific chunks of it as I'd expect) * switching to the "unchunked" output (which takes a long time for Carpet to create), loading goes OK, but any attempt to visualize hangs, with an error message along the lines of "engine abnormally exited" We're using fairly up-to-date VisiT (v. 2.7.2 / 2.7.3). Any insight welcomed. Thanks, Bernard

Merging Carpet's pmoesta/staggered
by Erik Schnetter 16 Jun '14

16 Jun '14

During today's telecon we realized that Carpet's branch "pmoesta/staggered" should be merged into the master branch. Prior to doing so, could you (the maintainers of pmoesta/staggered) merge Carpet's master branch into the staggered branch, resolve the conflicts, and test that everything still works fine? Afterwards, merging pmoesta/staggered into the master will be trivial. This moves the burden of merging to the branch, where it is less disruptive, and where one can break down the merging into multiple commits, and test without time pressure. -erik -- Erik Schnetter <schnetter(a)cct.lsu.edu> http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/personal/eschnetter/ My email is as private as my paper mail. Good time to add larger changes to the toolkit
by Frank Loeffler 09 Jun '14

09 Jun '14

Hi, We want to make users aware that this is now a good time to get major additions or changes into the toolkit, as we are just past the last release. The best way to get this done is by starting a discussion, either on this mailing list, or on one of the weekly phone calls. Frank Loeffler

Cleaning up "personal" machines in Simfactory
by Erik Schnetter 03 Jun '14

03 Jun '14

The following machines are marked "personal" in Simfactory's MDB. Without an active maintainer, these entries may be outdated or even useless. Please let me know if you are maintaining or using one of these; otherwise, they may be removed if they look abandoned. bethe cfermi generic hedges numrel02 numrel05 numrel06 numrel07 numrel08 numrel09 numrel10 spine tesla topf -erik -- Erik Schnetter <schnetter(a)cct.lsu.edu> http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/personal/eschnetter/

Present: Steve, Peter, Frank, Zach, Ian, Erik, Josef, Jonah, Roland IllinoisGRMHD inclusion: * no major objections were raised * add check that CCTK_REAL is double to code * Zach is already working on a TOV test to compare to GRHydro (using PPM) * volunteers needed to work on using thorn Boundary for symmetry conditions Git transition: * Ian and Frank to test setting up bitbucket * will continue to accept regular patches on mailing list and trac to keep the barrier for proposing patches as low as possible * want to continue development in trunk/master New features and major additions: * send email to mailing list asking for larger changes that people would like to include * do this now so that there is time to test them on trunk ** Carpet to pad and align grid arrays by default ** MacLachlan rewrite branch (Peter will look at the code this week) ** some results from Chemora (Steve and Erik) Yours, Roland
