ET workshop dates
by Roland Haas 20 Aug '12

20 Aug '12

Hello all, given that the workshop time is coming up soon and that we would (if possible) very much like to avoid having the workshop overlap deadlines that would keep people away, I would like to get everyone to state if they would be affected by this. Please note that according to the doodle poll http://doodle.com/ritukz79hhuvhben we have exclusions in both the week of Oct 15th and Nov 5th. Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. I therefore support encrypting and signing email messages. Get my PGP key from http://keys.gnupg.net.

ML build broken?
by Luca Baiotti 20 Aug '12

Hello, I updated my Cactus tree and compiled on my laptop (with repository simfactory osx-snow-leopard-macports-gcc.cfg) a thornlist containing McLachlan. The error is: COMPILING /Users/baiotti/Cactus/arrangements/McLachlan/ML_BSSN/src/ML_BSSN_convertFromADMBaseGamma.cc /Users/baiotti/Cactus/arrangements/McLachlan/ML_BSSN/src/ML_BSSN_convertFromADMBaseGamma.cc: In function 'void ML_BSSN_convertFromADMBaseGamma_Body(const cGH*, int, int, const double*, const double*, const double*, const int*, const int*, int, double* const __restrict__*)': /Users/baiotti/Cactus/arrangements/McLachlan/ML_BSSN/src/ML_BSSN_convertFromADMBaseGamma.cc:486:22: error: cannot convert '__m128d {aka __vector(2) double}' to 'double' for argument '1' to 'double sgn(double)' /Users/baiotti/Cactus/arrangements/McLachlan/ML_BSSN/src/ML_BSSN_convertFromADMBaseGamma.cc:488:22: error: cannot convert '__m128d {aka __vector(2) double}' to 'double' for argument '1' to 'double sgn(double)' /Users/baiotti/Cactus/arrangements/McLachlan/ML_BSSN/src/ML_BSSN_convertFromADMBaseGamma.cc:490:22: error: cannot convert '__m128d {aka __vector(2) double}' to 'double' for argument '1' to 'double sgn(double)' make[3]: *** [ML_BSSN_convertFromADMBaseGamma.cc.o] Error 1 make[2]: *** [make.checked] Error 2 make[1]: *** [/Users/baiotti/Cactus/configs/GRHydro2/lib/libthorn_ML_BSSN.a] Error 2 Do others see the same error? Einstein Toolkit Meeting
by Frank Loeffler 19 Aug '12

19 Aug '12

Hi Please consider joining the weekly Einstein Toolkit phone call at 10 am US central time on Mondays. As usual, you can find instructions how to join on the following web site: http://einsteintoolkit.org/community/support/ I short: the number is (+1) 225-578-4942 or (+1) 866-573-0359 and the conference id is 118682#. We should finalize the time for the fall workshop, for people to make their travel plans. Currently the week of Oct 22nd is proposed and nobody objected. However, exact dates aren't decided yet. That, and topic(s) to work on can be entered (by anyone) in the wiki: https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/ET_Workshop_Fall_2012 The CIGR award will come to an end this year. This is the grand that funded the toolkit for the past three years. While we got funding for another three years, a final report will need to be written. I will contact anyone I would expect to contribute in person, but it would also be nice to get input from the toolkit community. Please spare 5 minutes and think about how the toolkit helped your research. Write a couple of sentences and send them to us. If you would like to go that far you could include a list of publications that benefited from the toolkit. Also, in case you are using parts of the toolkit and are not mentioned on http://einsteintoolkit.org/about/members/ yet, please consider registering. It is not attached to any strings, it only helps the maintainers to better justify what they do. As always please speak up with any issue, question or story you have connected to your work and the toolkit. Activity last week: 30 issues changed and still open, 30 issues closed, e.g.: - GRHydro received major updates - EOS table can be readon single process and it then broadcast - added option checkpoint_every_divisor - Don't log in multiple times for sim sync - various fixes and improvements to checkpointing/restarts Frank Loeffler

Hi Did you ever tried to imagine how you could visualize the code development on the Einstein Toolkit / Cactus code base over the now more than 10 years? Take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EO4d32ch6OI Frank Löffler

New MPI config designation, specifying libs?
by Scott Hawley 09 Aug '12

09 Aug '12

Hi. Apparently the build system is looking for -lmpi_cxx, which does not exist on Nautilus. instead it is -lmpi++. I tried setting MPI_LIBS directly in my options file, but it didn't remove the reference. See error at bottom of this message. % cat ~/options.nautilus.gnu | grep -i MPI CPPFLAGS = -LMPICH_IGNORE_CXX_SEEK MPI_DIR = /opt/sgi/mpt/mpt-2.04/ MPI_LIBS = mpi mpi++ The only place this reference seems to be is.. % grep -r mpi_cxx configs/etk/ configs/etk/bindings/Configuration/Capabilities/make.MPI.defn:MPI_LIBS = mpi mpi_cxx (it's not in my environment... % env | /bin/grep mpi % ) How to fix this? Present were: Roland, Frank, Yosef, Eloisa, Josh, Tanja, Peter, Bruno ExternalLibraries/MPI: * Yosef suggested a dummy MPI thorn to be created in Lovelace so that it easy to have a thorn compile with both releases ET fall workshop: * location: RIT * time: week of Oct 22nd, please write to mailing list if this does not work for you * duration: to-be-discussed (currently: Mo-Fri) * topics: to-be-decided. Starting point for discussion: ** efficiency/scaling ** scheduler improvements, (reads/writes, task based scheduling, simplifying time/refinement level handling) ** generic elliptic solver * Frank will create a wiki page for the meeting HDF5 in test suites: * Yosef sugests (and there was no loud objection) that having support via h5diff would be a good thing * possibly have student at LSU look into interfacing h5diff with the test suite perl scripts * Cactus compiles h5diff when it compiles HDF5, otherwise HDF5 has to provide a path to h5diff * previous discussion on HDF5 in testsuites is here: https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/ticket/808 * CCE output file corruption after recovery: * Yosef has added more warning messages * error seems to be system dependent Yours, Roland

Hi, I did not receive the attachment. I checked the parameter and I use the default values which for me are: BOOLEAN truncate_files "Truncate existing output files from previous runs (except when recovering) ?" STEERABLE = ALWAYS { } "yes" BOOLEAN truncate_files_after_recovering "Truncate existing output files after recovering ?" STEERABLE = RECOVER { } "no" which should be ok, according to the description.
