simfactory (python) small issue
by Luca Baiotti 18 Sep '11

18 Sep '11

Hello, I was looking at the simfactory (python) wiki (is that the most up-to-date place to find information?) and I found a few problems. 1) I tried the command simfactory/bin/sim list-machines ranger and the result is the whole list of machines. Shouldn't it output only the data for ranger? 2) The command print-machine seem non-existent: Cactus> simfactory/bin/sim print-machine Error: unknown command print-machine Aborting Simfactory. 3) If I say: simfactory/bin/sim --remote-machine=ranger execute ls the reply is: sim.py: error: no such option: --remote-machine 4) What is the version of the command: simfactory/bin/sim list-configurations that lists the available configurations on a remote machine? 5) What is the version of the command: simfactory/bin/sim build [<configurationname>] --thornlist=<thornlist> that lists the available configurations on a remote machine? Cheers, Luca

Meeting minutes Present were: Frank, Tanja, Yosef, Christian, Eloisa, Ian, Peter (Did I miss anyone?) CCE: * Peter will test from QC0 (or bit longer) Fall Workshop: * Block of rooms will be made available at La Quinta Inn. * If you plan to attend, please enter your name on the Wiki page: https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/ET_Workshop_Fall_2011#Fall_Einstei… ET server slowdowns: * Google started indexing trac. * Trac is now hidden from indexing. Currently less hindered. ET Paper: * Christian will work on the collapse example. ET release: * Frank will start a wiki page to coordinate the release * Every week the Cactus support chat (9am Central on EVO) will be used as a time to work on bugs for ET maintainers. * High priority given to bugs important to next release or bugs in review state. Otherwise it is currently up to bug reporter to make sure a maintainer is interested, given the limited manpower to address bugs. Other: * Llama multipatch is coming to ET. Stay tuned to the mailing list for discussions. Regards, Tanja -- Dr. Tanja Bode, PhD Center for Relativistic Astrophysics tanja.bode(a)physics.gatech.edu Office: 2-31A Boggs Phone: (404) 385-8110

Re: [Users] CarpetIOHDF5 Problems
by Tim Lemon 12 Sep '11

Hello, I don't know how, but my CarpetIOHDF5 problem has seemed to have solved itself, and I can now access my results, so I haven't opened a ticket on your website. To Hal, I also didn't have any problem whilst only using 1 processor on my supercomputer. To Erik, I use Visit to view my results, and I was getting an error saying it could not open it, and claiming it was an invalid file. We managed to open up one of the files, but only gibberish was saved in it. Thanks for your help anyway. -- Kind Regards Tim lemon

Hi, I propose to use this week again to get the number of open tickets down. We are currently at 186 open tickets, and it would be nice if each participant could at least get one fixed. This shouldn't be too hard, there should still be some "low-hanging fruit". Frank Loeffler

CarpetIOHDF5 Problems
by Tim Lemon 07 Sep '11

Hello, I am running into issues with my output when running Einstein Toolkit on our supercomputer. I am using the intel 11.1 compiler, and in my options list when building the toolkit I have these options, CC = icc CXX = icpc F77 = ifort F90 = ifort HDF5_DIR = BUILD The simulation appears to run fine but the output is corrupt and I am receiving the following error message, WARNING[L1,P5] (CarpetIOHDF5): HDF5 call 'attr = H5Acreate (dataset, "ioffset", H5T_NATIVE_INT, dataspace, H5P_DEFAULT)' returned error code -1 HDF5-DIAG: Error detected in HDF5 (1.8.6) thread 0: #000: H5A.c line 916 in H5Awrite(): not an attribute major: Invalid arguments to routine minor: Inappropriate type Any suggestions on how to fix this error? -- Kind Regards Tim lemon

Generating them is time consuming and might not be trivial * will have only regression testsuites and not correctness tests Fall workshop: * need to organize transportation from hotel to campus * walking is not recommended (too far, too hot) ET server slowdowns: * no news beyond what is in the mailing list, have to wait for support ET release: * Ian is running daily testsuites on his workstation, both git and hg versions * 3 failures in git version -> related to recent MoL changes ** WeylScal4 TeukolskyID (assigned to Roland) ** TOVSolver ** AHFinderDirect RecoverML * extra failures with Carpet/Hg ** all checkpoint/recovery tests fail with Carpet/Hg due to file format changes ** one test contained NaNs which were removed ** QLM fails due to an MPI_Reduce on complex quantities ** TOVSolver fails * we need to fix and update the documentation * want list of fixes/improvements for release email * Frank will start a wiki page to coordinate the release Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. Einstein Toolkit / Cactus fall 2011 workshops
by Frank Loeffler 28 Aug '11

28 Aug '11

Dear Cactus and Einstein Toolkit users The numerical relativity and the frameworks groups at the Center for Computation and Technology at LSU invite you to join them for either the Cactus or the Einstein Toolkit fall workshop 2011, or both. Both events target existing users and developers and will happen at the same time, and in parts also the same place. However, their focus will be different. While the Einstein Toolkit workshop will concentrate on issues directly connected to numerical relativity, the focus of the Cactus workshop will be on general Cactus infrastructure improvements. In particular, users of the Einstein Toolkit have expressed interest in resistive MHD development, and possibly issues with different kinds of equations of state. The Cactus workshop on the other hand, will likely focus on GPGPU support in Cactus, and the long-planned overhaul of the Cactus scheduler. Both events are scheduled for Mon, Oct 31st, noon - Thu Nov 3rd, noon, at the Center for Computation and Technology at LSU, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Please use the ET wiki [1] for the latest information about the workshops. Please either register by sending an email to Frank Loeffler <knarf(a)cct.lsu.edu>, or by entering your name into the mentioned wiki page [1].
