Improve finite differencing in Exact

The enclosed patch improves the finite differencing that is used in Exact to calculate the extrinsic curvature. These finite differences are independent of the Cactus grid spacing. This is prompted by a remark by Peter Diener that the current finite differencing accuracy for the extrinsic curvature from thorn Exact is only about nine digits. It introduces new parameters "exact_order" and "exact_eps" that choose the order (2nd or 4th) and stencil size (default 1e-6). It also introduces new functions Exact__metric_deriv and Exact__metric_deriv2 that evaluate these finite differences. Some finite differencing terms for the spatial derivative of the shift have to be rewritten, which may lead to differences on the order of the finite differencing accuracy. The code could be rewritten to evaluate each stencil point only once in all calls to the new finite differencing operators. This would reduce the number of evaluations. Since thorn Exact is often very fast, this does not seem necessary at this point. Pointer to Einstein Toolkit on main Cactus page

The main Cactus web page could have a prominent pointer to the Einstein Toolkit. Hi, Spam started to appear in the ET bug tracker, so we installed a spam-filter plugin. We didn't take the time to configure it in a nice way yet, and it doesn't support captchas as it is now. Phone Call Mon, Nov 8th

Hi, Bruno Mundim will chair next weeks phone call because I will be traveling at that time. We do have a release to finish and I wouldn't like to wait for another week for that to happen - besides I will be traveling next week as well (but might be able to call in). The call will, as usual, happen at 10am central US time (now winter time). Details about how to connect are available at http://einsteintoolkit.org/info/support/ . The next release of the Einstein Toolkit will be the Nr. 1 item on the agenda of the next call tomorrow. We should all try to concentrate for a moment on the release, get it out of the door, to then be able to go on with our usual great science without this on the back of our minds. However, first we need to look at a few outstanding issues: 1) Testsuites A lot has been done over the course of last week, and I would like to thank all involved people. A few issues remain however: 1a) Most AHFinderDirect testsuites fail on 2 processes. This is not new. This has been the same for last release. However, in contrast to some other thorns, AHFinderDirect is used by almost every group, in production simulations. We should really figure out what goes wrong here. Even more severe: preliminary tests suggest that this could be connected to the interpolator, which would make matters only worse if it turns out to be true. 1b) Some GRHydro testsuites (especially involving ppm) fail on some machines. This is possibly simply connected to numerical errors. The deviations are small, while the default relative tolerance for con2prim is higher than that. Before cranking up the tolerances for the testsuites we should be sure about that though. 1c) McLachlan testsuites fail on the (potentially) three largest machines: ranger, kraken and bluedrop, but pass everywhere else. 1d) WeylScal4/teukolsky fails. The origin of this is known and simply a bug in the testsuite setup itself. Either we find time to correct this (is Roland still on it?), or we drop the testsuite. I ordered the list above by my personal feeling of importance. We could release with all of them unfixed (except 1d), since nothing of this is new, but I would really prefer otherwise. Please concentrate on the testsuites until Wednesday, so that we can prepare the release for the end of the week. 2) Bruno did some work on the web page and documentation and will probably report about the progress there. 3) The (short) release text is not yet on the wiki, but some of the details in the long text have been added. Thorn citations

As you may know, have been discussing the Einstein Toolkit citation policy recently. The current consensus seems to be that each component of the Einstein Toolkit can have both "required" and "suggested" citations. The details of this are discussed elsewhere; here I want to begin to compile the official list for our components. I have created a bibtex file einsteintoolkit.bib and placed it near our standard thorn list, i.e. into < https://svn.einsteintoolkit.org/manifest/trunk>. This is a preliminary list only (which is why it is only available in the development version of the Einstein Toolkit). Please have a look and correct if necessary, or suggest improvements. To simplify things I went a purely-bibtex way: In addition to the standard bibtex keys there are two new ones, required-for and suggested-for. Both contain space-separated lists of Arrangement/Thorn names, specifying for which thorns this particular publication is either required or suggested. I put this page up I think before we decided to primarily use SimFactory, so maybe should change it now to just list important machines that are supported through SimFactory and not bother about linking to config files but put a better link to SimFactory. Error when configuring ThornList qc0_blackhole

Hello, I am trying to configure qc0_blackhole Thornlist and this error comes up and it stops configuring. What can I do to fix this? CST error 1: -> Configuration script for thorn LORENE returned exit code 1 Error message: 'Error while building LORENE. Aborting.' I appreciate any help Stephen Sheler
