Upper-face reflection in ReflectionSymmetry.
by Eloisa Bentivegna 29 Sep '10

29 Sep '10

Hello! It's unlikely that this will affect anyone, but I've found some incorrect behavior in the treatment of *upper-face* symmetries in ReflectionSymmetry. I propose the attached patch. In brief, since the loop runs over the "source" points in descending order and the "destination" points in ascending order, then the index offset between the two sets should just be 2 (or 1 if one is staggering the origin), rather than twice the ghost size as in the lower-face case. The change affects branches that are only executed upon reflection_upper_*, so most people won't see a difference. Any input? Eloisa

slides and movies for presentation on 100to1

Hi, You can download the slides and 2 movies for my presentation today from http://ccrg.rit.edu/~yosef/100to1.html The 100to1.mov is a simple gnuplot visualization of the horizons. h2o_5.mov is a better visualization. In this animation the small horizon is magnified for visualization purposes. -- Dr. Yosef Zlochower Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation Assistant Professor School of Mathematical Sciences Rochester Institute of Technology 85 Lomb Memorial Drive Rochester, NY 14623 Office:74-2067 Phone: +1 585-475-6103 yosef(a)astro.rit.edu CONFIDENTIALITY NOTE: The information transmitted, including attachments, is intended only for the person(s) or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or privileged material. Eric I reverted your last two commits, since the new thorn list didn't work for me. It created a file GetComponents in the main Cactus directory pointing to ../repos, which is the wrong path. Checking out Cactus is a crucial step; once this is broken, everybody will have to update manually (since GetComponents doesn't work any more and will have been deleted!). Let's debug this, and let's have a few other people try things before proceeding. -erik On Fri, Sep 17, 2010 at 5:03 PM, <eric9(a)mac.com> wrote: > User: eric9 > Date: 2010/09/17 05:03 PM > > Modified: > /trunk/ > einsteintoolkit.th > > Log: > update to include new location of GetComponents > > File Changes: > > Directory: /trunk/ > ================== > > File [modified]: einsteintoolkit.th > Delta lines: +11 -4 > =================================================================== > --- trunk/einsteintoolkit.th 2010-09-08 20:51:39 UTC (rev 37) > +++ trunk/einsteintoolkit.th 2010-09-17 22:03:56 UTC (rev 38) > @@ -111,7 +111,7 @@ > !TARGET = $ARR > !TYPE = svn > !URL = https://svn.einsteintoolkit.org/cactus/$1/$2/trunk > -!CHECKOUT = > +!CHECKOUT = > EinsteinAnalysis/ADMAnalysis > EinsteinAnalysis/ADMConstraints > EinsteinAnalysis/AHFinder > @@ -190,7 +190,7 @@ > !TYPE = svn > !URL = http://svn.aei.mpg.de/numrel/$1/$2/trunk > !AUTH_URL = https://svn.aei.mpg.de/numrel/$1/$2/trunk > -!CHECKOUT = > +!CHECKOUT = > AEIThorns/AEILocalInterp > > > @@ -198,7 +198,7 @@ > !TARGET = $ARR > !TYPE = svn > !URL = https://svn.cct.lsu.edu/repos/numrel/$1/$2/trunk > -!CHECKOUT = > +!CHECKOUT = > LSUThorns/QuasiLocalMeasures > LSUThorns/SummationByParts > > @@ -210,7 +210,7 @@ > !URL = git://github.com/ianhinder/Kranc.git > !AUTH_URL = git@github.com:ianhinder/Kranc.git > !REPO_PATH= Auxiliary/Cactus > -!CHECKOUT = > +!CHECKOUT = > KrancNumericalTools/GenericFD > > > @@ -258,3 +258,10 @@ > Carpet/CarpetSlab > Carpet/CarpetTracker > Carpet/LoopControl > + > +# GetComponents, to keep updating > +!TARGET = $ROOT > +!TYPE = git > +!URL = git://github.com/gridaphobe/GetComponents.git > +!AUTH_URL = git@github.com:gridaphobe/GetComponents.git > +!CHECKOUT = GetComponents > \ No newline at end of file > > _______________________________________________ > Commits mailing list > Commits(a)einsteintoolkit.org > http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/mailman/listinfo/commits > -- Erik Schnetter <schnetter(a)cct.lsu.edu> http://www.cct.lsu.edu/~eschnett/

Updated several SimFactory mdb entries and ExternalThorns
by Erik Schnetter 23 Sep '10

23 Sep '10

I built the Einstein Toolkit thorns on a series of machines with different operating systems, including many TeraGrid, LONI, and DOE systems. For this I had to correct or update several SimFactory entries as well as build scripts in ExternalThorns. I have just committed these changes in the hope that these help portability. Please report any problems you may encounter. For the record: I tested on abe, bethe, bluedawg, bd, bp, carver, damiana, ducky, eric, franklin, hopper, kraken, lacumba, lincoln, lonestar, louie, neptune, numrel02, numrel05, numrel06, numrel07, numrel09, oliver, painter, pelican, philip, poseidon, queenbee, ranger, redshift, surveyor, tezpur, vip, and zeke. There is a known problem on bd that I reported to the administrators, and a strange error on abe and lincoln that I hope will go away on its own. -erik -- Erik Schnetter <schnetter(a)cct.lsu.edu> http://www.cct.lsu.edu/~eschnett/

Meeting minutes
by Roland Haas 23 Sep '10

23 Sep '10

Meeting minutes: Present were: Tanja, Roland, Frank, Erik, Bruno, Josh, Gabrielle, Ian, Christian, Yosef * simfactory: ** the python based version of simfactory is ready for testing ** python based version will offer support for archiving, profiling and debugging beyond what is currently available in the perl version. ** Gabe suggested adding data management functionality ** a desire to make using simfactory easier was voiced, but no agreement on how to achieve this was reached * reports on changes to WeylScal4 and the JPEG thorn(s) * Erik and Gabe recapped the current status of the test accounts: ** they are full accounts on QueenBee sponsored by Erik ** their SUs come out of the Cactus allocation ** currently the tutorial is geared towards them and using QueenBee ** we would like a list of the test accounts (maybe showing which ones are active and which ones are dormant) ** wanted to follow up to see if there are users who never run a job but only compile the code * it was suggested to use the Mercurial version of Carpet in the ET, however Erik says it is not yet stable and still contains serious bugs ** we need verification tests ** in particular for prolongation, restriction under realistic circumstances * new thorns: ** Ian made his SystemStatistics thorn public (in AEITHorns) ** WaveToy will be included in the ET (RH: which version? The standalone ones or the MoL based one? There are a number of testsuites that use the later one.) ** TestPar a thorn to test parameter file parsing will be included ** EOS_Omni will be included in the source but stay deactivated. * XiRel/CIGR anual report ** AMR: we are working on this, mostly on refluxing (Erik and Christian) ** MHD nearly there, working version for shocktubes, will start testing within a week, also test divB=0 constraint. currently work is concentrated on Con2Prim routines. (Josh and Scott, see wiki of the Carpet workshop: http://ccrg.rit.edu/~carpet/wiki/Main_Page) ** there has been no progress yet for higher order numerical methods ** there has been no progress yet including radiation or mircophysics into the code * Yosef will give a technical talk about the numerical challenges when simulating extreme mass ratio inspirals (today) Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. GetComponents stored username cannot be changed
by Ian Hinder 22 Sep '10

22 Sep '10

Hi, GetComponents, the tool used to download the Einstein Toolkit, prompts for the username for each repository when not doing an anonymous checkout. If I type this username incorrectly, it seems to be impossible to correct it. It keeps asking for the password without giving the option to change the username. This happens even when rerunning GetComponents. 1. Is it possible to modify GetComponents to ask for both the username and the password when the login fails, instead of just the password as is currently done? 2. Where are the login credentials stored? Is it all handled by SVN? i.e. (on Linux), the credentials are stored in $HOME/.subversion/ auth? Deleting this directory didn't seem to help. -- Ian Hinder ian.hinder(a)aei.mpg.de

Fwd: [Commits] [svn:einsteintoolkit] manifest/trunk/ (Rev. 38)
by Erik Schnetter 17 Sep '10

Yes, this seems like a good idea. There needs to be an "automatic" upgrade path, so that people with the current checkout can just use (the existing) GetComponents to get the new version; if this is not possible, there should be an error message. On the other hand, if the existing version is deleted from svn, and the new version then not correctly checked out, this is inconvenient... -erik On Fri, Sep 17, 2010 at 6:59 PM, Eric Seidel <eric(a)eseidel.org> wrote: > Did you use the version from github? I was getting the exact same error with the svn trunk version, which was due to a bad assumption that !CHECKOUT would contain something of the form "xxx/yyy". GetComponents moved to GitHub
by Eric Seidel 17 Sep '10

17 Sep '10

Hi all, Since GetComponents was designed to be separate from Cactus and the Einstein Toolkit, I have decided to move GetComponents to GitHub for hosting. The new project page is http://github.com/gridaphobe/GetComponents. It also has a nice new wiki and issue tracker :). If you just want to grab the latest version of GetComponents you can find it at http://github.com/gridaphobe/GetComponents/raw/stable/GetComponents or on my website www.eseidel.org. I also updated the Einstein Toolkit wiki to reflect the move. Note that I the stable version is still the ET_2010_06 release so if you are using the release version you don't have to worry about updating yet. I'll make another announcement if I decide to update the stable branch. Thanks, Eric
