survey participants wanted
by Haas, Roland 09 Sep '24

09 Sep '24

Hello all, this came to me via other channels (originally from Carole Goble, UK): As part of a PhD, we are conducting a survey that aims to gather insights into the documenting and reporting practices for research studies or experiments in computational science disciplines. Reporting practices refer to how researchers document and report the details of their research studies or experiments. Computational sciences involve using computational methods to solve scientific problems, with study methods typically being partially or entirely computational (e.g. bioinformatics, chemistry, astronomy, engineering, finance). What will your participation do? * Help us identify the common documenting and reporting practices faced by researchers. * Contribute to the development of a framework that enhances reproducibility in computational science research. * Reflect on your consideration of additional reporting practices. What is this survey about? The survey will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. It includes questions about your practices, experiences, and opinions on documenting/reporting research studies within your discipline. Participation is entirely voluntary and anonymous, and you can withdraw at any time without consequence. Participant information will be kept confidential and only accessed by the research team at the University of Manchester. The remaining survey responses will be anonymised and manually sanitised for privacy concerns before research analysis and may be published in a repository as part of open research practices. How to Participate? If you are interested in participating, please click the following link: https://www.qualtrics.manchester.ac.uk/jfe/form/SV_6JqMOFjTrJQ65j8 We look forward to your valuable insights and appreciate your help advancing reproducibility for computational research. -- My email is as private as my paper mail. attendees: Roland, Zach, Maxwell, Leo, Peter, Keith ET release timeline =================== * no updates questions ========= particleTracer_ET * Leo asked about ways to make particleTracer_ET more efficient by reducing duplicate work on multiple ranks * current patch seems to have caused test failures https://einsteintoolkit.github.io/tests/ * patched code should follow what multipole is doing and thus be fine BNS simulation collapsing to BH * Maxwell asked about experience running BNS simualtion that collapses to a black hole * Zach provided some suggestions what to do ** add extra refinement levels once a AH forms (lapse drops) ** Leo may be able to provide parfile snippets * GRHydro is lacking some checks on the conservatives that IllinoisGRMHD does and which can lead to instabilities * Roland has fixes that are in the Faber et. al. paper Wiki server * apache needs to be updated * Roland has updates to Debian 12 * needs some testing on real system (SQL access is lacking) Fellowship program * http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2024-August/009436.html for promotion of open source software tickets ======= * CarpetX implementing "Driver" https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2813 Steve updated the ticket to list only the active pull requests * no updates on improved McLachlan
