Present: Roland, Peter, Bhavesh, Zach, Qian,
US ET meeting in ATL: * website: http://et-workshop18.physics.gatech.edu/ * June 18 – June 20, 2018 * registration page: http://et-workshop18.physics.gatech.edu/register/ (not yet functional) * will send announcements to hyperspace, facebook, Helvi Vitek, Einstein Toolkit website (give access to website page to Bhavesh)
wiki site: * postpone until next week
new user registration link: * we think Frank set this up, so will have to contact him about what could be going wrong. TODO: Peter to contact Frank
missing material on ET website: * http://einsteintoolkit.org/mp.html is missing ID files and most links are broken * ID files no longer present on server at Caltech * Patrick Cheong tried to reproduce the run with current RNSID in ET but failed. Possibly bug in parfile or bug in GRHydro or difference between Whisky_RNSID and RNSID in ET right now. TODO: Roland to ping authors of paper, try to reproduce files with Whisky_RNSID * material is hard to find. Suggest to add them to the gallery.
Gallery: * suggest to ask authors of ET using papers for submissions to the gallery
ET chat: * there is a ET slack which we tried but which seems to have not gotten anywhere * similar story for IRC: https://webchat.oftc.net/?channels=cactus&uio=OT10cnVlde * Zach suggests giving https://gitter.im a try which is eg used by sympy: https://gitter.im/sympy/sympy
ET meeting next week: Only if there is interest since it overlaps with the APS meeting.
Yours, Roland
Hello all.
With the lack of users on the ETK IRC channel, I propose that we move to gitter. Unlike IRC, gitter does not require that users be logged in constantly, and it has been used to great success within the SymPy community: https://gitter.im/sympy/sympy . By default, you receive email notifications if someone poses a question directed at you, and notification settings can be adjusted to be noisier or less noisy as desired. Here's the gitter Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gitter.
I just set up an Einstein Toolkit gitter chat page:
*https://gitter.im/Einstein-Toolkit/Einstein-Toolkit https://gitter.im/Einstein-Toolkit/Einstein-Toolkit*
as well as a Performance Optimization Working Group chat page:
https://gitter.im/Einstein-Toolkit/WG-Performance-Optimization
Additional channels for working groups within the Toolkit can be set up under the Einstein-Toolkit/ subdirectory. Also, channel administration privileges can be added/modified as needed.
You can log in to gitter using github or twitter. *Though gitter uses github credentials, it can also interface with bitbucket repos.* Gitter can also be accessed via desktop and mobile apps.
Messages in gitter rooms are public, searchable, and stored to the cloud indefinitely. Also, private one-on-one chats are possible within gitter.

Hello all,
Thank you for setting this up. It seems like a good thing to try out.
Before we do so (and to get the detail out of the way before this becomes used a lot). Is it possible to name it EinsteinToolkit (ie no dashes)? This would match with our other repos eg on bitbucket.

Hi Roland,

used a lot). Is it possible to name it EinsteinToolkit (ie no dashes)?
I am not opposed to this idea. However, I do not have permissions to set up a Gitter community named "EinsteinToolkit", apparently because https://github.com/einsteintoolkit exists and I am not the owner/admin of that repo. Frank is the owner of the ETK github repo, so presumably he could set it up.

Hi all,
Roland has kindly set up new gitter rooms under the "EinsteinToolkit" community (notice there is no hyphen). I deleted the old rooms.
*For general user/developer interactions, please connect to:* https://gitter.im/EinsteinToolkit/EinsteinToolkit
*For Performance Optimization Working Group discussions, please connect to:* https://gitter.im/EinsteinToolkit/WG-PerformanceOptimization
Again, you can post in these chat rooms after first logging in to your github or twitter account.
Happy gittering!
