Restarting simulations using simfactory
by Atul Kedia 28 Aug '20

28 Aug '20

Hello, I want to restart a simulation to make it run for longer. It currently stopped at the time it was asked it at my par file. It has checkpoints enabled in the par file. I have increased the time in the par file at <sim_name>/output-0000/ and at <sim_name>/SIMFACTORY/par and I tried the commands : simfactory/bin/sim cleanup <sim_name> followed by simfactory/bin/sim run <sim_name> and set the added a line "jobid = 999999" as suggested at : http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2018-September/006528.html and I get the error message : "Error: Internal error: Cannot submit simulation <sim_name> because it is already active" Another email thread I used for reference was this one: http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2018-May/006281.html I am using ET_Mayer with the default simfactory that it comes with (simfactory 2, I think). Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you, -- Atul Kedia PhD student, Physics department, University of Notre Dame.

The overleaf link to the document is here: https://www.overleaf.com/8743961373pphphrhxbgys <https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.overleaf.com/8743961373pphphrhxbgy…> and a (current) pdf-version is attached. If you would like to support this LOI, please add your name, affiliation, and email address in the author list in alphabetical order at the end of the document, or send us an email. If you have any comments on the draft, please send it via email to someone listed at the top under "contact information", this is easier than directly changing something in the draft (please don't do this). Snowmass 2021 Letter of Interest
by Helvi Witek 27 Aug '20

27 Aug '20

Dear all, We have prepared a letter of interest (LOI) to be submitted to the Computational Frontier (CompF) of Snowmass 2021 entitled "Numerical relativity for next-generation gravitational-wave probes of fundamental physics"; see https://www.overleaf.com/9274281251jnbpqyqjqpfr Snowmass is similar to the US Astro2020 Decadal Survey, although the process is a bit different. For more information see https://snowmass21.org/cosmic/start <https://snowmass21.org/cosmic/start> LOIs are the initial step in the process to help coordinate the writing of White Papers on different topics whose focus will be particle and high-energy physics enabled by current and future facilities (funded or unfunded). If you would like to support the LOI, could you please add your name, affiliation, and your email in the author list in the alphabetical order at the end of the document? If you have any comments on the document, could you please send them to us instead of editing the document yourself? The document will be open until Sunday, 29 August, and submitted to Snowmass soon after. Best wishes Pablo, Geoffrey, and Helvi -- --------------------------------------------- Dr. Helvi Witek Assistant Professor Department of Physics University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 247 Loomis Lab 1110 W Green St Urbana, IL 61801 ---------------------------------------------

Hi Roland, I am cc'ing Pedro to this email. He has made quite a bit progress, but there are some outstanding issues. Perhaps sharing the progress with the community would be useful, since you may have good feedback to give. I will let Pedro decide though. by Roland Haas 27 Aug '20

27 Aug '20

Present: Roland, Atul, Peter D., Bill, Peter S., Yosef, Steve, Miguel, Maria, Zach BBH gallery: Atul and Peter uploaded the suggested changes: http://einsteintoolkit.org/gallery/bbh/index.html * move trajectory and waveform plots earlier * added links to codes used to produce figures (VisIt, MMA, MMA scripts) * some more changes planned but not quite done yet * Peter S. suggested adding an acknowledgement for cluster that was used to produce data (requested by center) * all agree to add ack section, also add link to extra README file with instructions Zoom hosts: * Steve will try to add others as co-hosts new tutorial server: * have switched over to https://etk.cct.lsu.edu * https://etkhub.ndslabs.org points to it * updating tutorial page on ET site now * some cleanup of server still in progress ** Steve is documenting setup ** will create repository with information * Steve calls for more tutorial notebooks questions * HDF5 output ticket https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2451/reg-hdf5-output-o… * no other tickets * no outstanding questions AOB: * Steve updated https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org virtual machine. Removes TLS 1.0, forced old Debian version ** would like to newest version of Debian, but needs updates to packages * Zach reported on LaTeX -> SymPy expression converter. Person working on it returning to work with Zach on September 1st, will go for wide spread testing, will work on GPU cdoe generation afterwards * LSU tutorial recordings: no ETA yet, order of week, we are second on the TODO list. Raw videos are available Next chairs: Yosef Zlochower, Zach Etienne 2 weeks (Sept 10) Next minute takers: Bill Gabella, Miguel Gracia 2 weeks (Sept 10) Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. I therefore support encrypting and signing email messages. Get my PGP key from http://pgp.mit.edu .

Reg. HDF5 output of QuasiLocalMeasures variables
by Vaishak P 26 Aug '20

26 Aug '20

Dear All, I am currently facing an issue when attempting to output QuasiLocalMeasures variables in HDF5 (in a BBH simulation similar to the gallery one) files instead of ASCII. I only face this issue when I request any QuasiLocalMeasures variables to be output in IOHDF5. I feel I might have done something silly here. Requesting your help. I am getting the same error message as in 005361 <http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2017-March/005361.html> ( http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2017-March/005361.html). . I am attaching the parameter file, the backtrace and the out and err files from the run. Thanking you in advance -- Vaishak P PhD Scholar, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Fellow Inter-University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) Pune, India
