Present: Erik, Steve, Roland, Frank, Peter, Ian Formaline: * Formaline seems very slow, we suspect this to be due to either larger files being added to tarballs and/or Roland's change that circumvents gits internal caching * suggested solutions include undoing the commit and trying to work around file systems that do not support hard links as well as tighter integration of Formaline with the flesh make targets to start Formaline's processing early * Formaline misses adding Makefile to the tarball, a workaround is to tar up the flesh repo directly by first de-referencing Makefile (if it is a symbolic link), then including the directory containing that file in the tarball. This should work for common situations Having a moving release branch: * Roland had suggested having a moving release branch so that eg websites could refer to that branch rather than having to be updated after each release, the hope is also to offer a simpler update path than "wipe your old Cactus tree and download a new one" * a suggestion is to only have such a branch in the manifest repo and nowhere else * Ian dislikes the idea of a moving branch since he fears it will interact badly with git pull * Erik points out that git pull will report conflicts if the release branch jumps from one release to the next and suggests to use a tag instead, Roland thinks this will not happen and will test this with locally and report back * having a simpler way to point to the current release is agreed to be nice but no simple way to achieve this seems obvious -- My email is as private as my paper mail. Re: [Users] [Einstein Toolkit] #1938: trouble installing readline
by David Rosenberg 08 Aug '16

After searching the dozens of web sites with this problem, I found a solution: readline-devel, ncurses-devel, lua-binary which I loaded and got around the problem. It almost compiled but had problems with fortran compiler complaining about cray pointers. Will be in touch if I can;t solve this one THANK YOU! Present: Frank, Steve, Peter, Eloisa, Ian, Erik, Matt, Roland, Zach * auto-synchronize grid functions: ** was presented multiple times in the call ** question whether this is effective or not ** should be the same speed since it calls the same SYNC statements just in different places ** currently looks at whether the function reads from everywhere but the last write was interior only, then there is a SYNC call before the function ** second part of functionality is to return NULL from CCTK_VarDataPtr when no Read/Write is declared provoking a SEGFAULT when Reads/Writes are missing ** uisng piraha-everywhere one could create function specific DECLARE_CCTK_ARGUMENTS ** Frank to look at it at the end of the week * piraha-everywhere (branch): ** review requested * developer's meeting ** what is a good time to do this? Zach teaches MWF this semester, no restrictions from the others * ET grant ** will make a version of the proposal public and start organizing work on it soon Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. I therefore support encrypting and signing email messages. Get my PGP key from http://keys.gnupg.net.

Sorry for my ignorance but put your Verbose instructions in makefile.. Attached are the Cactus output. File A is the gmake config and File B is just gmake. The build log are very small but also attached. The two problem libraries were in /Cactus/configs/Cactus/scratch. the libncurses config log is attached. lua did not have one. Thank you for any help. Present: Erik and Steve * We spent most of the time discussing the presync pull request to Carpet. It should help us make syncs correctly, always when needed and never when not needed. * I also said hello to little Erik. * He's 4 and 1/2 and * is fond of Angry Birds. Yours, Steve
