Dear Enzo, CactusTutorial.ipynb shows you how to run simulations. For example, to run interactively, it shows that you do this: ./simfactory/bin/sim create-run helloworld \ --parfile arrangements/CactusExamples/HelloWorld/par/HelloWorld.par So create a simulation name, e.g. multipatch, and pass your parfile. --Steve On 3/9/2023 3:50 PM, Enzo Iubini wrote: > Hello Steve, I'm sorry to bother but I forgot one thing. > > I was told that I could learn about Einstein Toolkit by running some > done simulations and shifting parameters to see how the code works. > I tried working with this Multipatch wave equation : > https://einsteintoolkit.org/gallery/multipatch/index.html > > But I do not know how to run it. So I just clicked through the heat equation notebook. The cell that ends with: ## play animation from IPython.display import HTML HTML(anim.to_html5_video()) #playback option 1 #HTML(anim.to_jshtml()) #playback option 2 Played an animation for me. Initially, there is a spike at the center of the grid, and it evolves to become flat. (It also printed a deprecation warning about the "close_event" function, whatever that is). Did you click through to this cell or did you stop at the one before? Because the one before it just displays a still image. The WaveEquation also worked for me by just clicking through the cells in order. > > I'm trying to understand how Cactus works, so I ran every cell in the > notebook while looking at the Terminal and seeing how each file is > created and its contents. > The problem comes when I finally run the simulations, which take a while. So I disagree that Cactus is a black box since it is open source and the purpose of these tutorials is to show how it works... but it's a very big non-black box which can be overwhelming. I think your problem is the hdf5 files, not Cactus. Hdf5 is a file format that Cactus uses. You can open them with commands like h5ls, or Python's h5py library (which the notebook provides some examples of usage). > > I want to work on the problems at the end of these notebooks, but not > correctly seeing the solution makes me think there's something wrong > since the beggining, and I have not changed anything else from the > initial notebook. So I'm not 100% sure what's going on, but I suspect you've either not clicked far enough or you have modified the notebook. Please check and let me know. --Steve > > Has this happened to anyone before? > > I'm sorry for the long email, I'm very new to this software and > there's so much to learn! :-) > Thank you in advance. > > - Enzo > > El mié, 8 mar 2023 a las 14:02, Steven R. presentation "Symbolic Code Generation for Tensorial PDEs with Applications to Black holes, Cosmic Strings, and Quantum Fields" March 9th, 2023 in the ET cal slot
by Roland Haas 03 Mar '23

03 Mar '23

Hello all, In next week's ET call slot 9:00 CST Adam Peterson (LBL) will present on: Symbolic Code Generation for Tensorial PDEs with Applications to Black holes, Cosmic Strings, and Quantum Fields Abstract: I will present the ongoing developments in code generation techniques for producing executable code blocks representing tensorial PDEs as encountered in numerical relativity. Specifically I will discuss code generation applications to AMReX based simulations of various systems including black hole mergers, cosmic string collapse, and more exoticly, lattice quantum field theories. I will demonstrate specific cases where symbolic tensorial expressions can be written in SymPy or Mathematica and then expanded into code blocks in C++ or Fortran. Simulations of black hole mergers and cosmic string collapse produced entirely from code generated applications will be shown with comparisons to standard testbeds in numerical relativity. Finally, a discussion of current and future developments will be presented. This will be an informal presentation, with questions, discussion and technical talk welcome and encouraged. http://einsteintoolkit.org/seminars/2023_03_09/index.html Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. I therefore support encrypting and signing email messages. Get my PGP key from http://keys.gnupg.net.

Present: Roland, Keith, Alex, Leo, Steve, Zach, Yosef Status of compiling ET on ARM cpus * Roland reports that ET can be compiled on M1 macOS if one comments out PAPI or with the changes in https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2682/updates-to-compil… Upcoming ET release * Leo and Sam have been in touch with release champions * updated release targets due to removal of IllinoisGRMHD * most reviewers have finished or are about to finish the * Roland mentioned apparently still development for Elliptica reader. Leo reported that right now the code is included in a thorn and not as an externallibrary CarpetX review * Roland to be added to reviewers * will try and reach out to Erik to see if he would like to champion it Unanswered questions: * http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2023-February/008857.html Roland suggests to try and make sure that, since the code is compiled using -xHost or -march=native that the CPU on the login node is the same as on the compute nodes * http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2023-February/008856.html no one present with Llama * http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2023-February/008847.html no one is using Anvil right now ET testing system * currently broken and does not send emails * Zach suggested to explore if GitHub has ARM based runners Chair 2 weeks from now: Steve Minutes 2 weeks from now: Leo Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. The generaion of initial data of BNS system with large mass ratio using Lorene
by 白济民 01 Mar '23

01 Mar '23

Hi everyone: I intend to use Lorene to generate an unequal mass binary NS system with large q (with mass 1.4 Mo vs 0.2 Mo), that is, a very light NS orbiting around a standard mass NS. However, Lorene code seems to fail to generate .resu file at such large q and I wonder how can that be possible within Lorene. Is it still under development or can it be done by varying parameter settings in the corresponding parcoal file in Lorene/Codes/Bin_star directory? I also wonder if there is a systematic procedure to adjust the parameter settings of parcoal to generate the initial data of a BNS system with small q? Thanks in advance! Best, Jimmy
