AHFinderDirect test in cosmology
by Luciano Combi 23 Jul '22

Hi all, I'm trying to use AHFinderDirect to find the apparent horizon in the de Sitter metric, implemented in the Exact thorn in comoving coordinates. I tried a few things but cannot get it to work. Have someone tried something similar, i.e. using the AHFD in cosmological spacetimes instead of BHs? Below I attach a typical parfile I used Thanks! ------------------------------------------------------- # flesh cactus::cctk_itlast = 0 ActiveThorns = "PUGH" driver::ghost_size = 3 driver::global_nx = 120 driver::global_ny = 120 driver::global_nz = 120 ##57 ActiveThorns = "CoordBase SymBase CartGrid3D" grid::avoid_origin = "false" grid::type = "byspacing" grid::dxyz = 0.2 ActiveThorns = "ADMBase ADMCoupling StaticConformal CoordGauge SpaceMask Exact" ADMBase::initial_lapse = "exact" ADMBase::initial_shift = "exact" ADMBase::initial_data = "exact" ADMBase::lapse_evolution_method = "exact" ADMBase::shift_evolution_method = "exact" ADMBase::metric_type = "physical" Exact::exact_model = "de Sitter+Lambda" Exact::de_Sitter_Lambda__scale = 0.50 ######################################## ActiveThorns = "IOUtil" IOUtil::parfile_write = "no" ######################################## ActiveThorns = "AEILocalInterp PUGHInterp PUGHReduce SphericalSurface AHFinderDirect" AHFinderDirect::print_timing_stats = "true" AHFinderDirect::output_Theta_every = 1 AHFinderDirect::h_base_file_name = "dS.h" AHFinderDirect::Theta_base_file_name = "dS.Theta" AHFinderDirect::N_horizons = 1 AHFinderDirect::origin_x[1] = 0.0 AHFinderDirect::origin_y[1] = 0.0 AHFinderDirect::origin_z[1] = 0.0 AHFinderDirect::initial_guess_method[1] = "coordinate sphere" AHFinderDirect::initial_guess__coord_sphere__x_center[1] = 0.0 AHFinderDirect::initial_guess__coord_sphere__y_center[1] = 0.0 AHFinderDirect::initial_guess__coord_sphere__z_center[1] = 0.0 AHFinderDirect::initial_guess__coord_sphere__radius[1] = 1.0 ------------------------ -- *Luc Combi* CONICET PhD fellow (Buenos Aires, Argentina) Instituto Argentino de Radioastronomía

Meeting minutes for 2022-07-21
by Leonardo Rosa Werneck 21 Jul '22

Dear all, Here are the meetings for today's meeting. Participants: Peter, Steve, Keith, Beyhan, Leo, Roland, Alexandru, Fede, Liwei, Cheng, Johnny • Reviewers • Canuda: Miguel Zilhão will be contacted by Roland • FLRW solver: Helvi might be able to do it, but we might want to find a backup reviewer. No volunteers in the call. • Self-force 1D: already have reviewers. • NRPyElliptic: Leo will talk to someone in Helvi’s group about it ASAP. • Elliptica initial data reader: Beyhan volunteered. Roland will put Beyhan in touch with Alireza, the code’s “champion.” • Gallery examples • BBH: Steve ran the simulation half-way through completion, but a crash (unrelated with physical issues) prevented the run from finishing. Steve is confident enough that the results are still the same as in previous runs. Will update the website soon. • TOV: Peter already finished running and will update the website soon. • BNS: Atul and Yosef are not present, so no comment. • Open tickets • #2621: The star is likely very under-resolved, which is why the NaNs are appearing at merger. Roland will provide suggestions on how to modify the parfile to improve this behavior. • Other discussions • Peter: Github bots are sending emails to mailing lists, which are then getting stuck for approval by the maintainers. Are these intended? Roland: Yes, had to create a few robot accounts. • Peter: Brief discussion about a presentation poster, which has been cleared out by Roland and Steve. • Next week’s meeting • Chair: Leo • Minute taker: Johnny Cheers, Leo ------ Leonardo R. Reduction operations with weights; 3 refinement centres
by Konrad Topolski 13 Jul '22

13 Jul '22

Dear ETK community, I'm writing with questions about two unrelated topics. 1. I would like to ask if there is a simple way of obtaining an L1 or L2 norm that comes from the integral with the sqrt(det(g)) measure, or a self-defined and stored weighing function? I realize it could be done most simply by defining an auxiliary variable with storage, whose value is the relevant field times "sqrt(det(g))", but perhaps this is already incorporated in some Cactus routines? Otherwise, I suppose the most efficient alternative is to assign storage for (and perfom reductions on) a new, detg-weighted variable, at only certain iterations, in the relevant thorn's schedule.ccl and only set values for it at these iterations? 2. I would like to learn, if there's a general guide for choosing the radii of 3 refinement centres, meaning a third, central, stationary one, in addition to the two moving ones. I want to prevent the edges of the 3rd refinement centre's levels from cutting into the objects, or the levels being unoptimally placed. For example, if I would like to have max_ref_lvl = L for the two moving centres, and L-1 (or L-2) for the third one, should the finest level of the third refinement centre (call it level N) have the radius R=(initial_separation) + r where r is the radius chosen for the other two refinement centres at level N? Best regards Konrad

Present: Roland, Keith, Steve, Johnny A drop in attendance compared to the 9am time slot triggered discussion about moving the meeting back to 9am. * next ET release ** have timeline for release posted, next deadline is July 21st to decide what to inlcude ** release date is November 10th (week before supercomputing) * missing gallery examples ** Steve will add "run by" date to his example * open tickets ** thornyflat cluster issues: https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2598/thornyflat-produc… this may be a MPI stack issue or wrong ldflag ** Intel 2021 compiler issue may be something to look into https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2615/riemann-release-n… * tickets ready for review ** close hdf5 files https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2364/avoid-opening-and… any other business: * will have presentation on GitHub actions CI system next week, https://rhaas80.github.io/einsteintoolkit/ shows the output * about simulating 3 black holes: not with stock ET since initial data is missing, with initial data this should be fine though, done multiple times by different group (eg nrpyelliptic should be able to produce ID of that sort) no unanswered questions minutes next week: Johnny Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail.
