Hi everyone,
I would like to simulate a BH-NS binary with the Einstein Toolkit. I have some experience with black hole simulations, but I am new to introducing neutron stars.
I have seen there are some publications in this line but, as far as I know, there are no examples like in the BBH or BNS case, which are displayed in the gallery.
My question is: is there any .par file that one can take as a starting point to these simulations? And maybe a more subjective question: is it currently possible to simulate BH-NS binaries in the Einstein Toolkit with similar confidence as BBH or BNS?
Thank you in advance!
Best regards, Santiago
Hello Santiago,
The toolkit currently don’t have a BH-NS binary gallery example but this http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2021-August/008168.html email thread in the ET mailing list about BHNS simulations might be useful.
Best, Miguel

Hi Miguel,
Okay, thanks! I had actually seen that thread and others, that's why I was asking for some kind of "official" .par file. I guess one has to go through unofficial thorns for this kind of simulation.
Anyway, I may try to get something from there. Thanks for the answer!
Best, Santiago

The "usual" open source response that I can't help but mention here is: "We're looking forward to your updates to this parameter file, to a brief writeup in the form of a web page, and possibly a few figures / pictures / maybe a movie..."
Take this with a grain of salt, of course: There is no expectation from our side that you should be doing this. However, if you do end up investing time into cleaning up the parameter file and / or writing up some notes that help you run the parameter file, and if you end up making some figures or a movie, then we'd be happy to help you turn this into a new gallery page.

Yes, of course! If I end up getting something, I will be glad to share it.
I can't promise anything, though. It seems like a difficult task for me, so I may focus on other projects if I try it and don't make much progress.

I have a master's student of mine that is working on NS-BH. We have a (private) thorn that can read NS-BH initial data generated with LORENE, but at the moment we are having problems generating good NS-BH initial data with LORENE (the main problem is getting a sufficiently small initial separation) and therefore we are currently working with KADATH ( https://kadath.obspm.fr/fuka/). Once we have the data ready, we plan to use their publicly available thorn to read those data within the Einstein Toolkit (https://bitbucket.org/fukaws/).
Cheers, Bruno
