Present were: Tanja, Frank, Peter, Josh, Seth Hopper, Bruno
workshops: * For details see last week's meeting minutes and soon the wiki page https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/ET_Workshop_Summer_2013 * will have 1 day intensive program on Friday (from past experience; we want to offer an early bird setup session the day before or before the workshop starts, we do not want to loose time on this.) * preliminary program: - allow participants to install and compile ET - simple run eg NS collapse (if possible to make robust) or similar run - consider providing output data as well * volunteers for topics: - Frank: overview of Cactus - Tanja: wave analysis - Roland: visualization - everyone: help setting up/compiling/running
memory leak reported by Ian Hinder: * http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2012-December/002686.html * Seth (who was also involved) reports that the leaks are quite severe * happen on two different clusters (both with trunk version) * leaks show consistent linear increase (ie no jumpyness) * noticed about ~1wk ago * this happens for pure BBH runs
generic options lists: * want to provide option lists for common OS * turns out we already do: - Frank uses and maintains debian.cfg - Steve uses and maintains fedora.cfg - Ian and Barry use OSX: do you want to officially claim to config file? - Bruno uses and will maintain ubuntu.cfg
Developer's workshop: * attached to new users workshop: July 27th-29th (incl). Please register interest on the wiki page.
Sample parameter files: * provide gallery of runs with parameter files and results * run these runs before the release
Yours, Roland

Yes. I use the OSX one regularly and can continue to maintain it with Ian. There are also several other older OSX option lists which I no longer use. Do we still want to keep all of those around?
I can also continue to maintain the Scientific Linux 6 option list, although I don't actually currently use it myself.

Hello Barry,

Thank you.
Probably (speaking only for myself) we want to rather remove old files than have them trip up new users (ie. if a file break and no one wants to fix it, it should be removed).
I can also continue to maintain the Scientific Linux 6 option list, although I don't actually currently use it myself.
That would be nice of course.
Also: I did not put in the minutes when the next phone call will be: The next phone call will be on Mon Jan 7th 2013 at the usual time.

Instead of listing maintainers in these option lists, I would like to add comments that read
# last-tested-on: date (see https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3339) # last-tested-by: Name address@email (see https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2822)
near the top of option lists. We should then clarify what it means to "test" an option list -- in my opinion, this should include configuring and building from scratch, both a debug and an optimised configuration, running all test cases, and running a multi-node test job with checkpointing/recovery. This should include not just the standard Einstein Toolkit test cases, but presumably a larger set.
"Maintaining" an option list then means having one's name listed as "inspector" and taking the blame when something goes wrong. An approximately monthly inspection cycle seems a good compromise, given the volatility of our source code and various HPC systems.
Feel free to add such a comment to an option list that you tested, as a sign that you are willing to vouch for its quality with your good name.

You should be able to do this if you have write access to any ET repository within the https://svn.einsteintoolkit.org/www repo.
