Hi All, I was trying to set up binary neutron star mergers following this page -- https://einsteintoolkit.org/gallery/bns/index.html But I get the error: *Missing thorn LSUThorns/NSTracker* In the gallery page says *Thorn NSTracker added to ET_2017_06 release* But, I couldn't find it. Am I missing something? Could someone please help me with this? Thanks in advance. -Rahul

Producing initial data file LORENE
by ismail özbakır 13 Dec '17

13 Dec '17

I am learning to use cactus code and einstein toolkit to make compact object simulations. I want to make binary neutron simulation like https://einsteintoolkit.org/gallery/bns/index.html I have a question. How can i reproduce initial data file (e.g G2_I12vs12_D4R33T21_45km.resu <https://einsteintoolkit.org/gallery/bns/G2_I12vs12_D4R33T21_45km.resu.xz>) for a new neutron star parameters with LORENE code? I couldn't find enough information about this. Best regards... -- İsmail Özbakır PhD student, Department of Astronomy and Space Sciences, Ege University, İzmir / Turkey

Hi everyone, I was just checking the new tutorial and found that the link to create account on tutorial server is not working (https://www.einsteintoolkit.nationaldataservice.org). Can someone please check that? Thanks, Bhavesh ............................. Bhavesh Khamesra Graduate Student Centre of Relativistic Astrophysics Georgia Institute of Technology

Signing in to Labs Workbench

To whom it may concern, I am having trouble, firstly, with this link, https://www.einsteintoolkit.nationaldataservice.org/, not actually leading anywhere and when I go around and use, https://www.workbench.nationaldataservice.org/#/login, I can't login. I'm just looking to see what's wrong and if it should be fixed soon, or if it's something on my end and I need to fix it? Thank you for your time, Vincent Craven

Jupyter Notebook, NDS interactive issue
by Bill Gabella 07 Dec '17

Okay here is a fix when it DOES ask for a yes/no or other. Well, at least when it asks one question and you want to answer it "yes". Do not recommend this for general fix. Cell code is: %%bash cd ~/ ./GetComponents --parallel https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/manifest/raw/ET_2017_06/einsteintoolk… << END_INPUT yes END_INPUT bill e.g. bash fixx for yes/no -- ===================================== William Gabella Research Assistant Professor Department of Physics and Astronomy Vanderbilt University Nashville, TN USA b.gabella(a)vanderbilt.edu (o) 615-343-2713

Jupyter Notebook, NDS interactive issue
by Bill Gabella 06 Dec '17

Okay I was re-running the Ipython Notebook tutorial---to see if it is good at TACC and to update my Cactus/ETK install. Ran into a GetComponents issue where it asks me to respond to its questions. Looked for a --yes or similar in GetComponents and did not find it. Is there an Ipython Notebook way to respond to a terminal question? Screenshot of the problem, when I have Cactus installed and re-run GetComponents. GetComponents question Was looking for some help online, and the %%bash cell magic does not give an answer but it does finish the script (or at least indicate that is does) with the error that $answer is not filled in with the Yes|No. bash runninig of GetComponents We should clean this up:) Any ideas? bill e.g. -- ===================================== William Gabella Research Assistant Professor Department of Physics and Astronomy Vanderbilt University Nashville, TN USA b.gabella(a)vanderbilt.edu (o) 615-343-2713

Conference announcement: Numerical Relativity beyond GR
by helvi witek 06 Dec '17

06 Dec '17

Dear all, some of you may be interested in the following workshop that Davide Gerosa, Leo Stein and myself are organizing next summer. The general registration is now open. Best wishes, Helvi -------------------- Numerical Relativity beyond General Relativity, Benasque, Spain The international workshop “Numerical Relativity beyond General Relativity” will be held at the Benasque Science Center (Spain) on June 3-9, 2018. With the first detections of gravitational waves, we have entered an exciting new era in gravitational physics that enables us to learn about the fundamental properties of gravity with a completely new sense. In particular, it opens up the unique opportunity to probe gravity in its most challenging, strong-field, and dynamical regime. Theoretical predictions of the gravitational wave signal emitted during the late inspiral and merger of compact binaries in models of gravity beyond General Relativity (GR) are crucial to truly put Einstein’s theory to the test. Currently, most beyond-GR predictions are limited to the weak-field regime. How the gravitational waveform would look in the highly dynamical near-merger regime, however, is largely unknown. The latter requires full numerical simulations in beyond-GR theories — a field that is still in its infancy. It is our goal to kickstart this new emerging field in gravitational physics with a workshop on “Numerical Relativity beyond General Relativity.” Therefore, we wish to bring together experts in Numerical Relativity, fundamental tests of gravity, and gravitational wave data analysis to facilitate fruitful future collaborations. Located in the beautiful landscape of the Pyrenees mountain range, the Benasque Science Center will provide an ideal environment to stimulate discussion, strengthen existing collaborations, and initiate new ones. Conference dates: *June 3-9, 2018* Registration deadline: *April 10, 2018* Accomodation deadline: *May 15, 2018* Website: http://www.benasque.org/2018relativity/ =========================================== Dr. Helvi Witek Marie-Curie Research Fellow Dep.
