GCC 8 was just released. The release notes contain this in their fine print:
"Character variables longer than HUGE(0) elements are now possible on
64-bit targets. Note that this changes the procedure call ABI for all
procedures with character arguments on 64-bit targets, as the type of
the hidden character length argument has changed. The hidden character
length argument is now of type INTEGER(C_SIZE_T)."
In other words, strings can now be longer than 2e9 characters. This is
a good change. To make this possible, the length of strings is now
passed as ptrdiff_t instead of as int, and consequently, the C/Fortran
interoperability mechanism in Cactus may need to be updated. Without
this, there might be a segfault e.g. when calling CCTK_INFO from
Fortran. (It might also be that things just work most of the time,
although this would be an unreliable coincidence.)
The respective include file that will need to be modified is
"cctk_FortranString.h" in the flesh.

Dear all,
is there an update on how to access our wiki?
I just tried to add the meeting minutes of the ET Working Group "Cosmology
and Particles" call and was asked to login. When trying to create an
account I just get a "reCAPTCHA V1 is shutdown" message.
Is there a workaround that I missed?
Incidentally, I tried to add this question to the ticket
https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/ticket/2135
but got an error "Submission rejected as potential spam" when I submitted
the comment.
cheers,
Helvi

Dear whom it may concern,
I am trying to reproduce the simulation of binary neutron star (http://einsteintoolkit.org/gallery/bns/index.html) with different mass. I use Lorene code to produce the initial data . The parameter files I used is locate in /Lorene/Codes/Bin_star/Parameters/Polytrope_irrot/Test_GR . And I changed central enthalpy of each star in par_init.d to get different mass (Is there other way I can get different mass?). And then I simulate with the ET. However I met some problems:
1.I requested 48 cores with 10 hours to run the code , however the code terminated after running ~4 hours. And the end of .err file reads:
cactus_sim: /global/u1/c/chlin/Cactus/arrangements/Carpet/Carpet/src/helpers.cc:275: int Carpet::Abort(const _cGH *, int): Assertion `0' failed.

The code is aborted without completing the whole process until the merger. How can I perform the complete process?
2. When I use visit to do the visualization ,I found the file rho.xy.h5 only has half of the whole simulation as :
[cid:e66a53d5-d406-4599-997f-00e90a864dc0]
The tutorial(scripts.tar.gz<http://einsteintoolkit.org/gallery/bns/scripts.tar.gz>) tells that I should use symmetric reflection to perform the whole visualization. However I cannot use this method since I simulated binary star with different mass . So there is no symmetry. How can I get the whole picture instead of only half ?
Thank you.
Best regards,

Hi,
(Please can you leave users(a)einsteintoolkit.org <mailto:users@einsteintoolkit.org> in the CC, with "reply all", so that others will benefit from and contribute to the discussion? Thanks!)
OK, that all looks good. This is weird. Can you check that the right host is being connected to with
host raw.githubusercontent.com <http://raw.githubusercontent.com/>
and also that you can connect using openssl:
openssl s_client -connect raw.githubusercontent.com:443
You should see something like
Verify return code: 0 (ok)
at the end. (Use ctrl-C to exit from the connection). If you get some error message, please post it here.

Hi everyone, this is the last reminder for registration for North American ET workshop 2018. The registration closes this Friday (June 1st, 2018). Please complete the registration if you are plan to attend the workshop and haven't done so. Then workshop will be hosted at Georgia Tech from June 18th-20th.
We also have some travel funds available for any participants who need financial support. If you wish to apply for these funds, please submit an application on the registration page for the same. The last date of application is also June 1st, 2018. You can find more information about registration here - http://et-workshop18.physics.gatech.edu/register/
Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hi,
I copied that command and ran it on Mac OS and Linux, and it worked OK. What version of Ubuntu are you using? You can get this from the output of
cat /etc/issue
Can you send the output of
curl --version
A quick google search says that that particular error message occurs if you try to access an http server with https. Is it possible that there is some firewall or redirection happening on your network to prevent you from accessing https servers?

Hello all,
I'm trying to work out the simulation of the binary neutron star in the Einstein toolkit gallery
https://einsteintoolkit.org/gallery/bns/index.html
using the Einstein Workbench. But what should I do after compiling using
./simfactory/bin/sim build --thornlist thornlists/nsnstohmns.th ?
I have tried to use command like
%cd ~/Cactus
!./simfactory/bin/sim create-run nsnstohmns \
--parfile=par/nsnstohmns.par --procs=2 --num-threads=1 --ppn-used=2 --walltime=8:0:0 | cat
but there is something wrong. The outcome has been sent.
Thanks in advance.
Yours,
Zekun
