New ET Meeting Time
by Steven R. Brandt 04 Jan '19

04 Jan '19

Based on the doodle poll initiated at the end of last year (see attached), it seems to me that Thursdays at 9:00 am CT is the best time for the meeting. No time works for everyone, but the Thu at 9:00am time allows for Erik, Roland, Helvi, Zach and me. I'm hoping that the people who did not check that time might still find ways to make adjustments. I plan to sign in on Jan 7 for the sake of those who don't see this email. However, unless there are strenuous objections, I think that's the best time. --Steve

parameters failed to output
by 林家暉 02 Jan '19

02 Jan '19

Hello, I tried to output some physical parameter like temperature , electron fraction and internal energy by adding CarpetIOHDF5::out2D_vars = " HydroBase::temperature HydroBase::Y_e HydroBase::eps " in the parameter file, but only eps are output successfully, the others are failed. Is there anything I have missed ? Thank you. Chia-Hui

Hi, My name is Jordi Manyer from the astrophysics department in Georgia Tech. I'm trying to build the ET on the cluster Cygnus and I've encountered a problem that I think might be related to one of your thorns: After compiling the thorns, Formaline starts creating tarballs and eventually outputs an error: Formaline: Creating configuration git repository... Present: Antonio Ramos Buades, Bill Gabella, Helvi Witek, Peter Diener, Steve Brandt, Roland Haas (late) Names for ET release: * Schwarzschild * Hawking Other items: * Steve went through the page https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/Services identifying updates to info on the infrastructure. * Helvi suggests rotating responsibilities for infrastructure to help get the material more complete. * Roland gave a quick status update on the trac to bitbucet transition project which is in good shape only requiring setting up a translation table to translate user names from trac to bitbucket and some minor fixes to the markdown syntax used (sample with incorrect user names see https://bitbucket.org/rhaas80/et2/issues) * Current ET call time causes conflicts to some participants. Doodle poll for alternative time is here: https://doodle.com/poll/igpv2bvg472nuegt The next ET phone call will be Jan 7th. Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. Einstein Toolkit Tutorial at PRACE school in Rome
by Bruno Giacomazzo 07 Dec '18

07 Dec '18

Dear All, this week I gave a lecture on the Einstein Toolkit at a PRACE school. The lecture included also a tutorial which is available on my web page: http://www.brunogiacomazzo.org/?page_id=412 It is almost the same I gave at the Einstein Toolkit Workshop in Lisbon this year. The main difference is that I provide a thornlist that downloads and compiles only the thorns that are needed in order to run the TOV example (instead of the full Einstein Toolkit). The tutorial takes about one hour in total on a laptop. I hope you find it useful. Cheers, Bruno -- Prof. Bruno Giacomazzo Department of Physics University of Trento via Sommarive 14 38123 Trento Italy Tel. : +39 0461281631 email : bruno.giacomazzo(a)unitn.it web: http://www.brunogiacomazzo.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------- There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't ----------------------------------------------------------------------

meeting minutes for 2018-12-03
by Bill Gabella 03 Dec '18

03 Dec '18

Present: Steve, Peter, Zach, Samuel, Antoni Ramos, Bill (taking minutes) LORENE2: * no Roland, no report (see below) WVUThorns: * Zach reported. He has a small-ish but not well understood LORENE2 initial data from his collaborator, has permissions to use it. * Working with Josh Faber (RIT) who is using LORENE2 for binary NS mergers, will have another small initial data set from him. * Discussion of a possible problem in LORENE2, a bug, that may make it incorrect. In the translation from French to English a subroutine was not translated. Also the LORENE1 initial data may not be useful/readable in LORENE2. * Because of this Zach and Steve recommend proceeding with caution. Last week the conclusion had been to replace LORENE1 with LORENE2...now not recommended until this is understood/explored further. BNS gallery example: * no progress TRAC update: * Migration to BitBucket * no report ET Infrastructure Presentations: * Will be next week, 10 December 2018 during the phone meeting. * As listed in the minutes for 2018-11-26, the nominal agenda/topics and presenters are: * website: Steve * wiki: Steve * trac: Steve * svn: Steve / Peter * Jenkins: Roland * mailing lists: Steve * tutorial server: Roland * repos on bitbucket: Roland * repos on github: Roland * release process: Steve / Roland next release: * Need name of famous scientists, male and female, and should be deceased. Would like to compile a list, so send in your and your colleagues suggestions. Nominally the next name should be a male...not set in stone. * Annie Jump Cannon was listed, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annie_Jump_Cannon. fyi, bill e.g. -- ===================================== William Gabella Research Assistant Professor Department of Physics and Astronomy Vanderbilt University Nashville, TN USA b.gabella(a)vanderbilt.edu (o) 615-343-2713
