Present: Christian, Steve, Frank, Roland, Eliu, Gela, Roberto, Erik, Upcoming release: * no progress on test suites * leftover tickets * aim for end of June KNL status: * most KNL machines (Cori, Marconi) can be used, if slowly so * stampede is the only machine that cannot be used * single nodes can be used on stampede but MPI currently still fails * will put in language stating that stampede is causing trouble and that speed is sub-optimal * will focus on KNL performance during ET workshop and possible followup workshops Noise in waveforms from McLachlan: * is not determined by size of Cartesian domain * substantial increase in resolution in the attachment region to multipatch helps * finest resolution is mostly unchanged * no change due to dissipation settings * right now 4th order (since coulpled to hydro) will do 8th order and report to mailing list with results Focus item for workshop: * porting to KNL (McLachlan, GRHydro) * KNL benchmark analysis Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. Einstein Toolkit Meeting Reminder
by Frank Loeffler 29 May '17

29 May '17

Hi Please consider joining the weekly Einstein Toolkit phone call at 9:30 am US central time on Mondays. Tomorrow, we will use a hangout again, with the URL being posted, as usual on this list, about 15 minutes before the meeting, and they will be also posted on https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/Main_Page After the call, anyone who is interested is again invited to test mumble (we had too few participants last week). So far, the verdict seems to be that the technology seems to be sound, but some of the clients are not as plug&play as a google hangout is. On the other hand, once the necessary setup is done (mostly having to do with when to mute/unmute your mic), things seem to work quite fine. This also seems to be similar whatever service you use (not just mumble). So, whatever it will be in the end, we will need a short how-to join (web page) before we make it default for the calls. Graphical display of timer data

Is there a way to graphically display cactus timer data? We're thinking about having an REU student develop such a tool if it doesn't exist. Thanks. --Steve

meeting minutes for 2017-05-22

Present: Steve, Roberto, Yosef, Roland, Qian, Gabrielle Release critical bugs: * failing tests for GRHydro, CCE * Roland would like to also add the NULL pointer usage in PeriodicCarpet/CarperLib ET workshop: * program finished up, waiting for final confirmation of speakers * will (if permitted by manpower) have track1/track2 setup on Monday with track1 being for undergraduate level researchers that have not used the ET before or are just starting. Track2 is for current users of the ET. The most voiced goal was to add new physics to the ET, for which unfortunately we do not have a setup yet. Suggestions would be to cover heat equation, Schroedinger equation or possibly shallow water equation. Alternatively (that is actually the current status) have a module on Llama and one on writing parameter files. Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. I therefore support encrypting and signing email messages. Get my PGP key from http://pgp.mit.edu .

Hi Please consider joining the weekly Einstein Toolkit phone call at 9:30 am US central time on Mondays. As usual, you can find instructions how to join on the following web site: http://einsteintoolkit.org/community/support/ Tomorrow, we will use a hangout again, with the URL being posted, as usual on this list, about 15 minutes before the meeting, and they will be also posted on https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/Main_Page After the call, anyone who is interested is invited to test mumble. A few of the developers tested this already last week, but I think not sufficiently to already now be used on the regular call. So, whatever it will be in the end, we will need a short how-to join before we make it default for the calls. Frank Löffler
